Since my 'forced' retirement on June 23rd, 2005, I'm trying to build an 'at home' business via the Internet and learning more about using my digital camera, eh!! The picture is of ME & Kathy, my wife who's one bad ass Quilter!! We will be adding some of her handiwork too. I'd love to hear from computer & graphics people so I can learn more and we'd both love to hear from Quilters too!!

Junction Fire!!

Hi Everyone,
My last Blog Update on Saturday morning the 29th of Jul, I showed some shots of the smoke that was being blown our way from the Junction City Fire about 8 miles away by road because of the heavy winds. I even got some good shots of the smoke and sunset too, but Kathy & I were thinking about getting ready to leave because the high winds could blow the fire our way in nothing flat, eh!! About the time a couple guys drove up and said to 'GET OUT NOW!!', because the fire has gotten away from the firefighters and it was rushing up and over our mountain towards us!! So we threw some things like Kathy's meds, my camera bag, and a hand full of clothes really quick and all I had on at the time was a shirt and my boxer shorts. So I slipped into my shoes, threw everything in the trunk and we got out of here like QUICK!!

We had already talked to our daughter in Redding, CA, about spending a night or two and that we did. We got the ok from CDF on Monday about noon, saying that Oregon Street was open to only residents and that we could go home. So we got some lunch on the way out and headed back home. As we were climbing the 3 miles from town back home, there we 'pumper' trucks & fire crews still do some mopping up of the area, looking for spot fires and flare ups. Back in 2001 we had another fire come across the mountains and jumped the highway and was stopped just below where our 20 acres began. This time the fires were stopped right at our roadway by our driveway, even burning some of our 'lower' acreage!! That's way too close for me, so you'll notice a lot of my shots labeled that way, eh!! ;-))

I have a lot of repetative shots that are mostly for me and my family that knows the lay of our land, but you all are welcome to take a peak at them all should you want too, eh!! I tried labeling some of the shots so anyone would understand why I took the shot, right. But most all of the shots were taken from my deck, some on a ladder to get shots above the roof height, some from my driveway enterance and some as I walked to the other side of Oregon Street and took shots as I walked down the edge of our property down to our barn/garden area where you can see the nice new dirt driveway or roadway the fire crew cut for me with a 'cat', eh!! . . . Later, 'Viper'
